Come explore "Extracting Blue," a new exhibition by artists of Arbutus Folk School. Ceramicists Elizabeth Mauro and Lindsey Warner have created an interactive community art space to consider how beautiful materials used in the studio often come to us from harmful and extractive processes.

We will consider how handmade dishes, sources of joy and beauty, also have darker origins through their use of mined minerals like cobalt. This exhibition grew out of Arbutus Folk School's ceramics staff discussions about our studio glazes: is blue so beautiful if the cobalt used to make the vibrant color is mined by enslaved children?

Bring your moral compass and your curiosity to consider the cost and the future of extractive global supply chains through the lens of art. Fighting moral ambivalence while searching for joy and beauty in the world around us, this exhibition asks: what can we find, consume, make, and experience that is free of exploitation and harm?
