Sherry Kirk, pottery

From Army to Artist

After being in the military for over 20 years, Sherry Kirk was looking for a complete change in her life. So she used her GI bill to study art at The Evergreen State College. She enjoys creating useful and creative pieces that last through the test of time. “There is an addiction to taking a raw piece of the Earth and turning into something sleek and useful.”

Sherry’s primary art obsession is creating functional pottery. “I fell in love with throwing clay on the wheel while studying art in 2008. Art became my new and abiding passion.”

Being an artist contributes to Sherry’s physical and metal well being. “The zen of watching the pottery wheel spin and the calm that comes when the clay flows smoothly through my hands sealed my addiction to making functional pottery vessels.”

Sherry is often inspired by her love of Medieval reenactment while participating with the Empire of Medieval Pursuits and Society for Creative Anarchism groups. She truly enjoys creating pottery inspired by historical forms.

Sherry also dabbles in independent film production, fine book binding, fine metal work, costuming and anything to do with permaculture. You can see the kind of fun-cheezy-quirky movies she likes to be involved with at www.emberdaysmovie.com

The wares are wheel-thrown in her studio nestled in the beautiful Pacific Northwest forest. The pieces are fired to Cone 6 or about 2230 degrees, making them incredibly durable.

All of Sidhefire Art’s functional pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe and contains no lead making them completely food safe. Pottery is designed for both beauty and functionality. Sherry even takes her personal dishes on camping trips she enjoys in the beautiful Pacific Northwest!
